Please help to secure the future of the Transporter Bridge

Lottery Success

You may have heard by now that Newport City Council has been granted £8.75m by the Heritage Lottery Fund for the restoration of our majestic Transporter Bridge and the building of an impressive Visitor Centre. That is in addition to the £1m to help with the preparation of the Bid.
Warm congratulations to Mike Lewis, Emma Newrick, the Project Board and everyone who helped with the preparation of the highly complex Bid. The Friends did their bit with a supportive letter, which Mike said was very helpful. We have also pledged a minimum of £10,000 towards the Council’s Bridge Development Fund.

Please help support the Bridge

You can help to secure the future of the Newport Transport Bridge by supporting the Heritage Lottery Fund bid. Support and backing of the local population is an important part of making a successful bid. You can help by:

  • visiting the Bridge before the end of September this year
  • looking out for events at the Bridge which help raise funds for the bid
  • add a positive TripAdvisor review
  • make a donation on the Justgiving page:

Many thanks.

Last Chance!

Remember, the Bridge is open August and September this year, but if the Lottery Heritage Fund bid is successful, the bridge will be closed for two years for refurbishment and rebuilding of the Visitor Centre. This could be your last chance to visit for some time!

Bridge Open!

The Transporter Bridge is now open again for the season. Additional measures have been put in place to ensure the bridge is safe for everyone to use:

  • Hand sanitizer and face masks will be available
  • Contactless payment
  • One way system on the high level walkway

An accessible toilet is available and overflow parking is available across the main road at Mill Parade (near the West of England Tavern. There are also electric car charging points.

Make the most of the summer and help support your Bridge!
